A lot is going on at the airports, JFK in particular. The redevelopment is in full swing as significant infrastructure projects are causing multiple road rerouting, both short and long-term. We are getting an idea of what we are in for over the next few years. As workers at the airport, I’m sure we’ll get used to it, but I’m not so sure about the traveling public. As the summer travel season is gearing up to be incredibly busy, travelers will undoubtedly be inconvenienced. Remember that the best efforts are in place to ensure everyone gets to their flight with minimal disruption. Over the next few years, leaving extra time and being patient will be necessary for all of us. As uncomfortable a change like this is, look at LaGuardia Airport, and you’ll know it was all worth it.

The cover story this month focuses on Celebrity Pilots. While most of us know about a few that made it to the feature, like John Travolta, there are so many that I didn’t know about; some were very surprising. As my youngest son is getting interested in flying and has a few lessons logged in his flight book, I am talking to more and more people about what it takes to become a Private Pilot. It’s pretty interesting how many people who work here at the local airports have earned their Private Pilot licenses. Not every airport worker is an aviation enthusiast, but so many are. For those with a genuine love of flight, receiving a pilot’s license is a wonderful accomplishment.

As we prepare for the summer months and all that comes with that, try to take in a local event that may interest you. There are loads of golf outings and networking opportunities. Take a look at the Metropolitan Airport News calendar in print, but more importantly, look online for the most up-to-date events.

So many companies are hiring for the upcoming summer travel season. If your company is one of them, we can get your jobs in front of workers looking for airport employment through our extensive print distribution channels, electronic distribution, and high-traffic online and social media networks. If you’re looking for a new opportunity, check out the Employment Section in print and go online for a more up-to-date and robust job board.

Thank you for taking the time to pick up the Metropolitan Airport News; I’ll see you around the airport!
