United Airlines has officially welcomed a one-of-a-kind livery to its fleet that was created by a New Jersey native as a tribute to the New York/New Jersey region the airline serves from its Newark Liberty International Airport hub. Designed by artist Corinne Antonelli, the Boeing 757 features iconic imagery from the two states including the historic Red Mill in New Jersey, the New York City skyline and the Statue of Liberty, as well as a globe signaling United Airlines worldwide connectivity. JetBlue announced that the airline is converting its fleet of baggage tractors and belt loaders – the largest part of its ground service equipment fleet at New York’s JFK International Airport – to electric powered. With support from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the New York Power Authority (NYPA), JetBlue is rolling out the largest fleet of electric ground service equipment (eGSE) of any airline at JFK. American Airlines has retired the last of its McDonnell Douglas MD-80 fleet as most of the remaining 26 aircraft took their final flights to Roswell, New Mexico (ROW). The MD-80, also known as the Super 80, was the workhorse of the airline’s fleet throughout the 1980s and beyond. The Super 80 era began at American in May 1983 with three aircraft serving six cities — Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW); Detroit (DTW); New York City (LGA); Memphis, Tennessee (MEM); Nashville, Tennessee (BNA); and Ontario, California (ONT). Delta Invests $2 Million for Study of Potential Facility to Produce Biofuel from Forest Floor Debris
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Delta Air Lines is investing $2 million to partner with Northwest Advanced Bio-fuels, LLC (NWABF) for the feasibility study of a biofuel production facility to produce sustainable aviation fuel and other biofuel products. The sustainable aviation fuel, expected to be produced in a facility in Washington State, could be used in Delta operations at stations in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. JetBlue (NASDAQ:JBLU) today announced the newest round of grants from the JetBlue Foundation, the first airline foundation focused solely on supporting aviation and STEM education. This year, the JetBlue Foundation is fueling 13 programs with nearly $250,000 in grants to benefit their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and aviation initiatives.
