Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the Port Authority issued a Request for Proposals for preliminary engineering and other planning work for a new AirTrain connection to LaGuardia Airport. The expert firm’s work will represent a critical next step in advancing the LaGuardia AirTrain project. The RFP is open to all qualified firms and responses are due in four weeks. Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology was recognized as having the highest upward mobility rate among 2,137 colleges in a January 18 article published in The New York Times. Vaughn College is noted as “an institution doing more to impact social mobility for those who start from less fortunate means,” and listed as the top institution for moving students from the bottom 40 percent to the top 40 percent in income. The first delivery of an A321 aircraft from the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility to Delta Air Lines took place today, in Mobile, Alabama. NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen thanked members of New York’s Long Island business aviation community for their grassroots efforts to stop proposals in Washington, DC for creating a privatized ATC system funded by user fees, and told them their efforts would again be needed in the new year as the issue was sure to come up again in the next session of Congress. Bliss Jet, based in New York, said they will start service in January between New York’s LaGuardia Airport and London’s Stansted Airport, offering seats on “shared private jets.” The company says they will offer seats on a variety of business jets, carrying 10 to 14 passengers, at a price less than $12,000 – not much more expensive than a full gate first class seat. “We are offering all the advantages of a private jet experience without the expense,” said Bliss Jet CEO David Rimmer.
