He will take over his new position as of November 1, 2023, and will succeed Alexander Kohnen, who left the company of his own accord in April 2023. During the first three quarters of 2023, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) intercepted 5,072 firearms at airport security checkpoints, and at the current rate, the agency will surpass last year’s record 6,542 firearms prevented from getting onboard aircraft. In the third quarter, which ended Sept. 30, Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) stopped 1,820 firearms at checkpoints. The total represents an average 19.8 firearms per day at TSA checkpoints of which more than 94% were loaded. “Passengers may travel with a firearm, but it must be in their checked baggage,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske. “Firearms are only permitted in checked baggage,…
Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a member of SATS Group, will increase cargo capacity at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) by 20% in early 2025 with the opening of a new 346,000 sq.ft. terminal incorporating advanced technology and sustainability solutions. New York JFK is one of WFS’ biggest international cargo stations. WFS already operates eight handling facilities at the airport, serving 38 airline customers. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced an agreement with York College at the City University of New York to provide an aviation-focused weekend and summer education and enrichment program in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for up to 700 students from grades 1 through 12. A watch was assembled for the first time at an altitude of over 30,000 ft, thanks to a unique collaboration between Geneva Tourism and Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). After the last Pan Am airplane landed on December 4, 1991, the employee community never lost their love for the revered institution that was Pan American World Airways. In 1992, a group of volunteers led by Ed Trippe, the son of Pan Am’s President and CEO Juan Trippe, founded the Pan Am Historical Foundation. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced the completion of the new Atrium Business & Conference Center at LaGuardia Airport. The center will open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 19, and will include conference rooms, business center services, and several new lounges. Another Lufthansa Cargo Boeing 777F equipped with AeroSHARK technology entered service. This is the fourth freighter to be equipped by Lufthansa Technik with the technology since February this year. AeroSHARK is a functional surface film that imitates the microscopic structure of shark skin. It reduces the aerodynamic drag on the fuselage and engine nacelles of the Boeing 777F, resulting in significant fuel and emissions savings. This technology, jointly developed by Lufthansa Technik and BASF, will be successively applied to Lufthansa Cargo’s entire fleet of 777 freighters, making them more fuel-efficient and reducing emissions.
