    The Transportation Security Administration is hiring security officers at LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airports in Flushing with a recruitment event scheduled for Friday, Nov. 5, and Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Four Points by Sheraton-Flushing Hotel, 33-68 Farrington Street, Flushing, NY 11354.

    Attendees at the event can expect to attend a brief information session, apply for the position if they did not already do so online prior to the event, take a computer-based test to evaluate English language proficiency and object recognition aptitude and finally, participate in an interview.

    TSA officers screen thousands of airline travelers daily, ensuring they arrive at their destinations safely. They provide security and protection of air travelers, airports and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner. Some of the duties of a TSA officer include:

    • operating various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft;
    • performing searches and screening, which may include physical interaction with passengers (e.g., pat-downs, search of property), conducting bag searches and lifting/carrying bags and bins;
    • controlling terminal entry and exit points; and,
    • interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries.

    Hourly starting pay for both full and part-time positions is $19.07 an hour. TSA is also offering a sign-on bonus of up to $1,000 which includes $500 after onboarding and an additional $500 after one year of service for individuals who are hired before September 30, 2022.

    Benefits of working at TSA for both part- and full-time employees include paid training, annual and sick leave and strong health care plans. TSA is committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment and encourages individuals of all backgrounds to apply, including military veterans and persons with disabilities. No previous law enforcement or security experience is needed because TSA will train new hires. Applicants must be 18 years or older and be U.S. citizens or nationals.

    For more information on the duties of a TSA officer and to learn a little more about TSA’s mission, a video titled “Day in the Life of a TSO” is available. To view open positions for TSA officers around the country, visit TSA.gov/TSO.
