American Airlines and the Transportation Security Administration announced Wednesday that TSA PreCheck Touchless ID is available at all of American’s hub airports.

Touchless ID is a biometric program utilizing facial recognition to verify identity at TSA checkpoints. Eligible passengers can use dedicated lanes and do not need to take out and hand an ID and a boarding pass to a security officer when going through a TSA checkpoint. Instead, a photo verifies the passenger’s identity.

The photo uses advanced technology to compare the passenger with previous photos handed to the U.S. government, such as those from a passport, Global Entry, or a visa. Opting into Touchless ID is optional.

American Airlines passengers can find Touchless ID at all of its hubs, including Charlotte (CLT), Chicago (ORD), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK and LGA), Philadelphia (PHL), Phoenix (PHX) and Washington, D.C. (DCA). The airline has many other non-hub airports with the program, and is continuing to expand the offering.

“Expanding TSA PreCheck Touchless ID across our hub network is an important step in our commitment to creating a more seamless and efficient travel experience,” said American’s Chief Operating Officer David Seymour. “Our customers value speed, convenience and choice, and this partnership with TSA delivers all three.”

Touchless ID is provided all three New York City area airports. Eligible passengers can enjoy the benefits when traveling on an Alaska, American, Delta, Hawaiian, Southwest, or a United Airlines flight out of JFK, LaGuardia, or Newark Airport.

American Airlines passengers who wish to opt into Touchless ID can do so on the airline’s website under their AAdvantage profile.
