JetBlue Announces Plans to Serve Guyana Beginning in December 2020

Cheddi Jagan International Airport

JetBlue Airways has re-announced a new start date for its new non-stop service to Georgetown, Guyana, which was originally planned to start on April 2, 2020.

The airline will begin to offer service between JFK International Airport and Cheddi Jagan International Airport starting December 11, 2020. The carrier will operate the route using its new A321neo aircraft.

“Guyana service introduces a diverse and underserved destination to the JetBlue route map which will benefit both leisure travelers, as well as those visiting friends and relatives,” said Andrea Lusso, the airline’s director of route planning, at the time the service was announced.

Guyana is known for its’ beaches and mountain ranges and will become JetBlue’s fourth destination in South America.

The airline’s newest nonstop route to the region takes about five hours in the air.

Guyana’s becomes the carrier’s 40th destination in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Prior to the pandemic, Guyana had been seeing steady growth in its tourism sector, buoyed by new hotel investment in the capital, Georgetown, and increased awareness of the country’s strong eco-tourism offerings. In a statement, the carrier said the new route was made possible by the A321neo’s “extended range and fuel efficiency.”

The new route will be made possible by the addition of Airbus A321neo aircraft to JetBlue’s fleet. The A321neo has a longer range and higher fuel capacity than the carrier’s other planes. The airline took delivery of its first one in 2019.

The A321neo has 42 Even More Space premium-economy lite seats which are 18” wide and have 35” to 38” in seat pitch, and 158 seats in coach.
