Since 2007, Empire Clean Cities (ECC) has been committed to providing citizens and stakeholders access to reliable information about alternative fuels, advanced vehicle technologies, and green transportation practices that reduce emissions in New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley. Originally named  New York City and Lower Hudson Valley Clean Communities, Empire Clean Cities transitioned to its new name in 2009 and developed strong ties to the community and key stakeholders over the past decade. Through our partnerships with over 100 stakeholders comprised of fleets, vehicle dealers, OEMs, and other related industry and community partners, ECC has helped displace 230 million gallons of petroleum and over 1.2 million tons of GHG emissions in the NY Metro region. That is the equivalent of taking over 40,000 combustion vehicles off the roads annually.

As the designated local U.S. Department of Energy supported Clean Cities coalition, Empire Clean Cities is also part of a national network of nearly 100 coalitions dedicated to advancing the nation’s economic, environmental, and energy security by reducing petroleum consumption in the transportation sector. The Clean Cities program is a national alternative fuel/advanced technology deployment program administered by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Program. The program brings together stakeholders in the public and private sectors to collaborate on the deployment of alternative and renewable fuels, idle-reduction measures, fuel economy improvements, and new transportation technologies.
