As American Airlines shifts to a longer-term approach of supporting the families and loved ones of those lost on Flight 5342, it has established the Office of Continued Care and Outreach. Jim Carter, who spent more than 40 years with American before retiring in 2023, is returning to lead this work as Vice President of Care and Continuity.
Jim has been instrumental in American Airlines’ response to this accident, and he also played a critical role in supporting team members and loved ones following Flights 11 and 77 on Sept. 11, 2001, and Flight 587 on Nov. 12, 2001. We are grateful to have Jim’s leadership during this difficult time.
The role and responsibilities of the office will evolve over time, but it will always be focused on ensuring the airlines’ purpose of caring for people on life’s journey while doing all it can to care for those directly affected by this tragedy.
