Setting a new record-high for spring travel, Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, expects 145 million passengers – nearly 2.4 million per day – to fly globally on U.S. airlines between March 1 and April 30, an increase of 4 percent over last spring’s 140 million passengers. Citing the critical importance of the Transportation Security Administration to the safe, secure and efficient movement of air cargo, the Airforwarders Association (AfA) today called on President Trump to nominate a new Administrator for the agency. The TSA has been without a confirmed Administrator since the end of the last Presidential administration when Peter Neffinger retired from the agency. Malawi Airlines on Thursday booked its space in the aviation history books with the company’s maiden all-female operated, and supported flight. UPS announced plans to build an additional six compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations and add 390 new CNG tractors and terminal trucks and 50 liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles to its alternative fuel and advanced technology fleet. Emirates today commenced daily passenger service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Dubai International Airport, via Athens International Airport. A VIP delegation and contingent of international media were aboard the inaugural flight, which carried passengers from Athens, Dubai and points beyond. Newark becomes Emirates’ 12th U.S. gateway, and is the second serving the greater Tri-State Area, complementing Emirates’ existing four daily flights from Dubai and John F. Kennedy International Airport. Today U.S. airline workers rallied to protest the maiden Emirates airline flight into Newark, New Jersey from Athens, Greece. Supporters of the U.S aviation industry pointed to massive government subsidies by the United Arab Emirates and Qatar to their state-owned carriers – Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways – as a gross violation of international agreements with our country and a threat to 1.2 million American jobs.
