A Transportation Security Administration officer spotted what looked like an improvised explosive device in a man’s carry-on bag early this morning, resulting in the temporary closure of several security screening lanes at Newark Liberty International Airport until authorities could determine that the item was not the bomb that it was designed to mimic. The man was traveling to Florida to participate in a training event focused on X-ray detection of explosive devices and as such, he was carrying a test item that was built and designed to mimic a fully-assembled bomb when viewed on an X-ray monitor. The largest commercial airlift of horses ever undertaken in the history of horse sport has begun ahead of the FEI World Equestrian Games™ Tryon 2018, which get underway in North Carolina (USA) on 11 September. At least 10 people were taken to the hospital Wednesday, September 5th, after an Emirates Airline plane from Dubai landed in New York City with about 100 passengers and crewmembers reported feeling ill, officials said. Emirates confirmed the incident in a tweet saying; Emirates can confirm that about 10 passengers on #EK203 from Dubai to New York were taken ill. When an ARK’s landscaper was about to remove milkweeds (a certain type of plant) growing on the side of The ARK at JFK, assuming they were unwelcomed weeds, Donna Bungo quickly jumped into action and advised the landscaper that the plants were milkweeds, which are a critical food resource for monarch butterflies, bees and other pollinators. Milkweeds are also where caterpillars begin their metamorphosis from cocoons into vibrant monarch butterflies to complete the circle of life. Delta Air Lines Cargo has appointed Rafael Figueroa as managing director – cargo operations and customer experience. Figueroa joins Delta from Aeromexico Cargo and replaces Julian Soell. The appointment is part of an international talent exchange program between Delta and Aeromexico. Boeing has named Brendan Curran president of Boeing AvionX, an organization formed last year to pursue the development and production of avionics and electronics systems. Curran, who has more than 20 years of aerospace industry leadership, joins Boeing from Crane Co., where he served as president of the Aerospace & Electronics Group. In this newly-created position, Curran will work across Boeing’s commercial, defense and services businesses to further mature the company’s aftermarket strategy.
