American Airlines, British Airways, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) announced future plans to co-locate their operations in New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Terminal 8. John Pearson has officially taken over as the new chief executive of DHL Express to replace Ken Allen. Pearson takes over the role from Allen, who is heading over to the parcel giant’s new e-commerce division. Hudson Ltd., a leader in North American travel retail, announced that Roger Fordyce has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Company, effective January 8, 2019. Mr. Fordyce succeeds Joseph DiDomizio, who is leaving the Company to pursue other interests. The New York City Attorney General’s office announced a $35.3 million settlement with FedEx to resolve claims over illegal cigarette deliveries to residents throughout New York City and State made by FedEx over a ten-year period. The settlement resolves three lawsuits against FedEx alleging that it partnered with cigarette trafficking businesses to illegally ship hundreds of thousands of untaxed cigarettes to New Yorkers. In addition to the payment, FedEx will implement internal reforms and hire an independent consultant that will oversee FedEx’s compliance with the law and provide compliance reports to the City and State. The “Miracle on the Hudson” is one of the most amazing stories in aviation history. On Jan. 15th, 2009, a flight bound for Charlotte, North Carolina, full of people, landed safely on the Hudson River after a bird strike, a flock of migrating geese striking the aircraft. All 150 seats on the Airbus A320, were full for the 2-hour trip from New York’s LaGuardia airport to Charlotte in North Carolina. It was a cool day with snow on the ground. The Metropolitan Airport News again raised money for PALS, Patient Airlift Services, through the December Giving Campaign. The most recent giving campaign raised $3,100 for the local organization that provides flights and transportation to those who need help getting to their doctors. During a Giving Campaign, we donate $100 per ad run to a chosen local charitable organization. To date, together with our partners, we have raised nearly $25,000 for the USO of Metropolitan New York and PALS. A big component of our mission is giving back the local aviation community.
