Taking another step forward in the construction of the new LaGuardia Airport, the Port Authority announced the opening of a new seven-story Terminal B parking garage, with phased-in operations beginning February 10, for customers to begin using Levels 3 through 6. All customers are asked to use the 94th Street exit off the Grand Central Parkway and follow directional signage to access the garage. The garage opening is part of a complex $8 billion, multi-phase construction plan designed to enable the 30-million passengers-a-year airport to continue operating while the entire airport is rebuilt. Conveniently located just eight miles from midtown Manhattan, LaGuardia Airport (LGA) handled nearly 30 million passengers in 2016 and has seen passenger volumes at its Central Terminal Building increase almost twofold since the terminal opened in 1964. Now Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) is partnering with Edge4Vets, a jobs training program offered out of Fordham University, to do just that. Delta Air Lines is taking steps to further protect its customers, employees and service and support animals by implementing advance documentation requirements for those animals. This comes as a result of a lack of regulation that has led to serious safety risks involving untrained animals in flight. The new requirements support Delta’s top priority of ensuring safety for its customers, employees and trained service and support animals, while supporting the rights of customers with legitimate needs, such as disabled veterans, to travel with trained animals. Nine people were arrested yesterday (January 18) after Transportation Security Administration officers detected a suspicious item in a carry-on bag at a Newark Liberty International Airport checkpoint. The preliminary investigation indicates that all were in collaboration and claimed to be working for a television network. Some members of the group attempted to intentionally carry through the security checkpoint an item in a carry-on bag that had all of the makings of an improvised explosive device.
