The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey issued an update yesterday on current conditions at JFK Airport. “What happened at JFK was completely unacceptable and we will investigate what went wrong and prevent it from happening again,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “The primary problem appears to be international airlines arriving without available gates at the international terminals, but we will thoroughly review all aspects of what happened leading up to and during the snowstorm, and the recovery period afterwards. The incident significantly disrupted operations at Terminal 4, a privately run terminal. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) set another screening record during the 2017 holiday travel period, December 15 through January 2, 2018, with more than 42 million (42,043,588) passengers and more than 30.6 million (30,611,408) checked bags screened nationwide. December 22, the Friday before Christmas, was the busiest day with more than 2.5 million passengers and crew members screened. The Port Authority and the Shomrim Society of the Port Authority will formally re-dedicate the return of a new Hanukkah menorah during a ceremony at the World Trade Center site at 5:10 p.m. on Monday, December 18. The Port Authority today launched its most comprehensive recruitment initiative ever to attract veterans for available agency jobs, with the goal of having those who served in the U.S. military comprise 5 percent of the agency’s workforce in 2020. Canam-Bridges will supply 3,600 tons of components to build the steel structures of four new access ramps at LaGuardia Airport in New York on behalf of the Skanska / Walsh joint venture. The redevelopment of the Central Terminal B is being completed through a public-private partnership and will be delivered in design-build mode. The four access ramps will be made up of transfer box girders and assembled plate-girders. These ramps will allow access to the upper and lower levels of the departure area.
