Canam-Bridges will supply 3,600 tons of components to build the steel structures of four new access ramps at LaGuardia Airport in New York on behalf of the Skanska / Walsh joint venture. The redevelopment of the Central Terminal B is being completed through a public-private partnership and will be delivered in design-build mode.
The four access ramps will be made up of transfer box girders and assembled plate-girders. These ramps will allow access to the upper and lower levels of the departure area. The girders will be manufactured and painted at the Canam plant in Claremont, New Hampshire, from December 2017 to October 2018. Erection will begin in October 2018, and the access ramps are set to open in 2020.
LaGuardia Airport has been open to the public since 1964, at which time it was designed to accommodate eight million passengers per year. Today, Terminal B serves more than 15 million passengers annually.
