Edge4Vets connected Craig Thomas to a job at Corporate Loss Prevention Associates as a John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) security guard last summer. Nearly a year later, Craig has been performing at such a high level that he’s on his way to a successful career at metropolitan New York airports.
“Chris consistently demonstrates punctuality and reliability,” said Vidya Ramsammy, CEO of CLPA. “He’s alert at his post and completes all tasks efficiently. Furthermore, his communication with airport customers is clear, attentive, and professional. He’s a pro.”
For his part, Chris attributes his leadership strengths to values and skills he learned in the military, strengths he got a chance to apply at the airport thanks to connections he made through the Edge4Vets program, which KAAMCO Cargo and JFK Air Cargo Association sponsor. The Fordham-based Edge4Vets program teaches veterans how to translate their military skills and then connects them to jobs that can lead to careers at New York area airports.
Edge4Vets, which is offered nationally in collaboration with Airports Council International – North America, has been partnering in New York with the NYC Department of Veterans Services and has expanded to the airport with leadership support from Worldwide Flight Services, ASAK Solutions, Airport Community Foundation, and others in addition to Corporate Loss Prevention Associates.
“The military gave me an ability to work as a member of a team along with a strong work ethic,” said Chris. “I’m grateful to CLPA for giving me the chance to show what I can do and get me on a career path.”
Chris, who attended John Jay College – CUNY, is currently enrolled in law school to become a lawyer and one day work in the District Attorney’s office. Based on his record of achievement at JFK Airport, he’s on his way to career success.
Vaughn College will host the next Edge4Vets workshop series on May 22, 2025. Visit Edge4Vets.org to learn more and register for one of its veteran assistance programs.
