The JFK Chamber of Commerce held a luncheon at Russo’s on the Bay on October 10, 2018, featuring Joanna Geraghty, the new President of JetBlue as speaker. Ms. Geraghty opted for a fireside chat format, with James Groark, Cathay Pacific, as interviewer, and later questions were taken from the audience.
Ms. Geraghty spoke of the many products and services that set JetBlue apart from the other carriers; more leg room, free snacks and free wi-fi, as well as the success of their Mint program, a coast to coast premium class with lie-flat seats. JetBlue is the only low-cost carrier in the US to offer a dedicated premium product.
As evidenced, Ms. Geraghty’s airline background in customer service clearly shows. She emphasized that JetBlue, which positions itself between the legacy and low-cost airlines, offers passengers more than travel as a commodity, but travel as a favorable experience with dedicated employees offering exceptional service. When asked about competition, specifically from David Neeleman’s “Moxy” startup, Ms. Geraghty emphasized that she welcomed competition and saw it being better for consumers and the general public, contrary to the popular belief.
One of the questions everyone had in mind was the possibility of JetBlue flying to Europe. Ms. Geraghty said their new A321 aircraft had the capability and it was something that is in discussion based on numerous factors.
In conclusion, Ms. Geraghty brought the large contingent of JetBlue team members on stage and thanked them for making the JetBlue experience a success. Joanna Geraghty is President and COO of JetBlue, and is responsible for JetBlue’s operations and commercial performance including network, brand and marketing and revenue management.
