The Suffolk County legislature recently authorized a lease agreement with two companies at Francis Gabreski Airport on Long Island that will comply with the airport’s master plan for aviation development at the airport.
Resolution no. 175-2022 and Resolution 176-2022, dated March 29, 2022, respectively state that True North WHB, LLCs submitted an application to develop three acres of property for the purpose of constructing aircraft hangars and that Sunrise Jets Maintenance LLCs submitted an application to develop 14 acres of property for the purpose of constructing and operating a Fixed Base Operation (FBO), which will include an office building, aircraft hangars, ramp, and fuel farm, were approved by Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone on April 6, 2022.
Both projects were found to be in compliance with the adopted 1990 Airport Master Plan Update, the 1995 Central Pine Barrens Comprehensive Land Use Plan, the 1992 Long Island Comprehensive Special Groundwater Protection Area Plan, the 1999 Town of Southampton Comprehensive Update Implementation Strategies Plan, and the Town of Southampton Aquifer Protection Overlay District requirements.
According to Suffolk County officials, the two projects will modernize the facility and bring in millions of dollars of investment in the airport.
