    Aviation High School Check Presentation

Metropolitan Airport News has raised $6,300 for the Aviation High School Annex 5th Year Program through our annual December Charitable Giving Campaign. Since 2017 we have donated more than $37,000 to local aviation-based charities. The Charitable Giving Campaign donates $100 per paid advertisement to the benefactor.

This year we are happy to announce that Perfect Dental Care is our Gold Sponsor and has matched our donation to the Aviation High School 5th Year program.

The presentation was hosted by the Council of Airline Maintenance Managers (CALMM) during their annual Holiday luncheon. The students of Aviation High School traditionally cater this event; each student prepares a dish for the buffet table. The amount of food was almost as impressive as the students. One cannot help but note the maturity and confidence of these 5th-year students.

Located in the nation’s largest school district, Aviation High School is a highly sought-after school funded by New York City’s Department of Education and accredited by the Federal Aviation Administration. The Annex, located at JFK International Airport, is the school’s 5th-year program where a very select group of students continue their training and test for Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) FAA certifications. These students are paired with major airlines and aviation companies at the airport for paid internships.

If the predictions are accurate, we will require more than 750,000 aircraft maintenance technicians over the next 20 years. Programs like this are critical to keeping the aviation industry operating safely with quality mechanics and technicians.

The Metropolitan Airport News is proud to support Aviation High School and the work it does promote aviation as a career path for young men and women in the metropolitan New York area.
