Norwegian operated its first flight from the United States to the “Eternal City” last night. Flights from New York City/Newark launched on November 9 and will be followed by nonstop service from Los Angeles on November 11 and Oakland on February 6, 2018.

This marks 25 new routes from the U.S. by Norwegian in 2017, including nonstop service to Barcelona, which launched in June, and 12 new transatlantic routes from the northeast to Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Norway with the brand-new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. So far, the airline has announced seven new routes for the first half of 2018, including new service from Austin and Chicago to London and four new routes to Paris.

Rome is Norwegian’s seventh long-haul European destination served from the U.S. following Barcelona, Paris, London and the three Scandinavian capitals of Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.

“This year has been a monumental year in terms of U.S. growth for Norwegian, and our new service to Rome has been performing beyond expectations. In fact, we have already increased frequency from New York and will offer daily service by February. Our fares and service undoubtedly show there’s great demand for low cost, high quality service, which is evident from the many awards we’ve won over the past few months,” said Thomas Ramdahl, Norwegian’s Chief Commercial Officer.

“We are very excited about Norwegian’s new routes to Rome, especially the new route from Oakland/San Francisco, which will be the only nonstop service from the Bay Area. Italy is one of American travelers’ favorite destinations worldwide, and it is now even more affordable and easier for more Americans to come and enjoy the food, culture and history that makes our country so exceptional,” said Giovanni Bastianelli, Executive Director of ENIT, the Italian Government Tourist Board.

Service from Newark Liberty International Airport to Rome’s Leonardo Da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport will operate four times a week until early February 2018 when it increases to daily service.

Service from Los Angeles International Airport to Rome will operate twice per week until February, when it will increase to three times a week. Flights from Oakland International Airport is a twice weekly service.

The new Rome routes will be served by brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliners and offers a Premium Cabin which includes a dedicated check-in counter, additional luggage allowance, fast track security, lounge access, priority boarding, sleeper seats, and all meals and drinks. The lowest fares in Norwegian’s Premium to Rome from Newark and Los Angeles start at $539 and $719 one-way including taxes respectively, one-way including taxes.

Both Economy and Premium fares are now available for sale on Norwegian’s website. Additionally, the website’s low fare calendar displays the lowest available fares to all of Norwegian’s destinations.

Rome will be the 13th European city with nonstop service from the U.S. in Norwegian’s ever-growing route network. Norwegian now offers 58 transatlantic routes from 15 U.S. airports to Denmark, France, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, as well six routes to the French Caribbean, totaling 64 routes out of the United States. Upcoming launches from the U.S. include: Oakland/San Francisco to Rome (February 6, 2018); New York/Newark to Paris (February 28); Chicago to London (March 25); Austin to London (Mach 27); Denver to Paris (April 9); Oakland/San Francisco to Paris (April 10), and Boston to Paris (May 2).

Passengers on all of Norwegian’s routes are eligible to join Norwegian Reward, the airline’s frequent flyer program and can earn CashPoints every time they fly, stay at a hotel or drive a rental car.
