Silver Airways is the First Airline to Sell Regularly Scheduled Flights to Cuba in More Than 50 Years

Following last week’s announcement of being the only airline awarded service to all nine Cuban destinations, Silver Airways has become the first U.S. airline to again sell regularly scheduled flights to Cuba with tickets for sale now at silverairways.com. Silver Airways, which operates more routes within Florida and between Florida and the Bahamas than any other airline, will be the first U.S. carrier to start service to Cuba with the inaugural flight departing Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Santa Clara, Cuba (SNU) on September 1, 2016. This will be the first regularly scheduled flight from the U.S. to Cuba in over 50 years and a historic moment for American-Cuban relations.

Following are details of Silver Airways’ Cuba flights currently available for sale at silverairways.com:

  • Fort Lauderdale – Santa Clara starting September 1, 2016 (three weekly flights; daily starting October 13)
  • Fort Lauderdale – Camagüey starting October 13, 2016 (five weekly flights)
  • Fort Lauderdale – Cienfuegos starting October 21, 2016 (two weekly flights)
  • Fort Lauderdale – Holguín starting October 27, 2016 (daily)
  • Fort Lauderdale – Santiago starting November 3, 2016 (daily)
  • Fort Lauderdale – Cayo Coco starting November 17, 2016 (three weekly flights)
  • Fort Lauderdale – Varadero starting December 2, 2016 (four weekly flights)
  • Fort Lauderdale – Cayo Largo starting December 10, 2016 (one weekly flight)
  • Fort Lauderdale – Manzanillo starting December 16, 2016 (three weekly flights)

“Becoming the first airline to sell regularly scheduled air service to Cuba in over 50 years would not have been possible without our team of dedicated professionals who have been working diligently in preparation for this historic resumption of service between the U.S. and Cuba,” said Silver Airways President and CEO Sami Teittinen. “Receiving approval to serve all Cuban destinations beyond Havana is a true testament to Silver’s already strong and developed position as the airline of choice for Florida and the Caribbean. We look forward to being the very first airline to provide service to Cuba starting this September.”

“We want to commend Secretary Foxx and his team for their decision to award Silver Airways operating authority to Cuba. In addition to serving the first nine destinations in Cuba from Fort Lauderdale, we look forward to the DOT’s approval of Silver’s tenth destination – Havana,” said Silver’s CFO and Executive Vice President Commercial Jason Bewley. “Direct airline routes from Havana to West Palm Beach, Fort Myers, Key West, and Jacksonville are critical to the large Cuban American populations in these important Florida communities. Silver is the only carrier willing to bring access to these markets and fly travelers to Cuba without requiring them to endure long drives to congested hub airports or forcing travelers to make costly connections that are inconvenient and simply impractical.”

In celebration of this momentous occasion, Silver Airways is offering a 33 percent discount off all base fares between Fort Lauderdale and Cuba available at silverairways.com through 11:59 pm ET on June 30, 2016*. To receive this discount, qualified travelers simply need to enter promo code “SILVER2CUBA” when making their reservation at silverairways.com. For complete details, reservations and to receive email updates on Silver’s special offers, visit Silver Airways’ Cuba travel webpage for details. (Posted schedules and fares are subject to final Cuban government approval.)

Silver Airways’ connections offer customers the ease and convenience of seamless booking, ticketing and baggage handling with connections to dozens of destinations that are available via the airline’s codeshare partnerships with United and JetBlue, as well as interline ticketing partnerships with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Bahamasair, Avianca, Azul Brazilian Airlines, Hahn Air, and All Nippon Airways.
