Virgin America, the California-based airline reinventing flying, today announced a total of four daily nonstop flights to both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) as of November 18, 2016. The new service comes as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Virgin America’s request to operate two additional daily flights to Newark. In conjunction with the new service, Virgin America will also offer even more conveniently scheduled flight times for travelers heading between New York City and the West Coast. To celebrate the new services, Virgin America is offering a fare sale, with Newark flights starting from $149*.
“Since our launch, we have been committed to increasing competition in the New York metropolitan area for travelers, with lower fares and service that allows them to stay connected, comfortable, and productive coast-to-coast,” said Virgin America’s Director of Network Planning, Adam Green. “We thank the Federal Aviation Administration for opening up this access, which will allow us to offer our guests even more choice when traveling from the East Coast with up to 25 flights departing the New York metropolitan area each day. Our transcontinental schedule is also focused on convenience – we have timed the flights so that guests don’t have to travel too early in the morning or too late in the evening.”
Virgin America has built a loyal following of bi-coastal flyers with its nonstop flights from the West Coast to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The Virgin America inflight experience is perfectly tailored to transcontinental travel — with three classes of service (including a First Class cabin and a Main Cabin Select premium economy service) as well as WiFi, power outlets at every seat, an award-winning full-service food menu and touch-screen seatback entertainment available for every guest. Virgin America was recently named the “Top Domestic Airline” in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards readers’ survey for an unrivaled ninth consecutive year – representing a win of this award every year the airline has been in service.
Virgin America’s new EWR flights have been timed to complement the airline’s transcontinental flight schedule to create as many convenient options as possible for New York travelers. The new schedule will see Virgin America operate ten flights per day from Los Angeles to the New York City area and nine flights per day from San Francisco to the New York City area.
Virgin America offers mood-lit aircraft with three custom-designed classes of service, touch-screen personal entertainment and an on-demand food and cocktail menu on every flight. In addition to a Main Cabin that offers custom leather seating with a deeper, more comfortable pitch, the airline’s First Class cabin offers plush white leather seating with 55 inches of pitch, 165 degrees of recline, and lumbar massagers. The carrier’s Main Cabin Select service offers 38-inches of pitch, free food and cocktails, an all-access pass to media, dedicated overhead bins and priority checkin/boarding. The Red entertainment platform offers guests their own seatback touchscreen1 with +20 latest release films, TV, interactive maps, videogames, a 3,000-song library, surround sound technology and an on-demand menu, which allows flyers to order from their seatback any time during a flight. With a full-service First Class menu and a unique on-demand menu in the Main Cabin, Virgin America was named Travel + Leisure Magazine’s “Best U.S. Airline for Food” in 2014 and 2015.
