WAVE Announces New Leadership Following Chapter Elections

The Port Authority’s Women In Aviation Empowered (WAVE), a prominent chapter of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Women’s Council (PAWC), has officially announced its new leadership team. Following a recent election cycle, the board is poised to continue its mission of fostering professional development and community-building for women across the aviation industry.

New Board Appointments

The incoming board features a blend of experienced leaders and new voices dedicated to the organization’s growth:

  • Maria Cuenca, President: Having served as Vice President over the past year, Cuenca steps into the presidency with a deep understanding of WAVE’s mission. Her leadership is expected to provide strong continuity for the group’s ongoing initiatives.
  • Rachel Genzer, Treasurer: Joining the board as the new financial lead, Genzer will oversee the organization’s fiscal health and support its continued success in funding member programs.
  • Maya Kadirgamar, Director of Communications: Kadirgamar joins the leadership team to head internal and external messaging, ensuring members stay connected and informed about the chapter’s impact.
  • Andrea Welch, Director of Events: Bringing a focus on engagement, Welch will lead the planning of WAVE’s signature events, including airport tours and speaker series.
  • Debbie Brown, Director of Membership: Continuing her successful tenure, Brown remains at the helm of membership. Her recent efforts have led to a significant increase in engagement and new members across the Port Authority.

Special Election for Vice President

With Maria Cuenca transitioning to the presidency, a vacancy has opened for the role of Vice President. The WAVE Election Committee has announced a special election to fill the remaining one-year term.

Nominations are currently being accepted for candidates eager to help lead this community. Interested individuals or those wishing to nominate a colleague are encouraged to submit their entries by Friday, April 10, via the official nomination form.

Empowering Women in Aviation

WAVE remains a vital resource for women working within the Port Authority, offering a wide range of enriching opportunities designed to build a strong professional network, including:

  • Educational Outreach: Airport tours and professional speaker series.
  • Career Growth: Leadership workshops and professional development.
  • Community Support: Clothing drives and local volunteering initiatives.

“We are excited to share this update and are confident these leaders will continue to move the group forward in meaningful ways,” stated the WAVE Election Committee.
