April is National Volunteer Month, and there is no better time to highlight the hard work and dedication of the volunteer and trade organizations operating at our airports. You may be surprised to learn how much gets done by these organizations and how many of these volunteers work with you at the airport.
They are dedicated groups of people that work well together across multiple organizations to put forward the kindness and support to those most in need. If the airports themselves are a community, the volunteer organizations are a community within that community. There is a lot of hard work that goes on for sure, but there is also a lot of fun, friendship, and networking.
Most people find that giving of time and talent is done at home, but as you will learn after reading this month’s feature article, Volunteers – Stepping Forward, there is also much to be done surrounding the places we work.
While civic support is often baked into the business plan of many large operators at the airports, it also takes a ‘boots on the ground’ effort from small businesses and individuals to make a positive difference in people’s lives. This is where these volunteer organizations come into action.
If you haven’t considered volunteerism or think you don’t have the time or the talent, please reconsider. You might be surprised how much your life changes for the better when you are in service to others.
I hope you enjoy this issue and consider which organization would be a good fit for you. Check out their websites, projects, charities they support, and members you may already know. There are so many different organizations; you need to find the right fit for you!
