Welcome to the August issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. Those who call the aviation industry their career, passion, and community know that aviation isn’t just flying passengers around to their desired destination; aviation is much more than that. We often speak in terms of the airports, airlines, supporting businesses, and organizations as a giant economic engine in New York and New Jersey and endless employment opportunities.
This month we are bringing you an introduction to Orbis International and the Flying Eye hospital. This organization has centered its entire mission on offering eye surgery to underserved populations and training doctors worldwide. Orbis took a donated FedEx plane and turned it into a state-of-the-art flying hospital. It is an amazing story of hope, determination, and creativity that solves a serious problem while improving the lives of people around the world.
There is much to do and get involved with this summer at the airports. There is no shortage of golf outings, fishing trips, comedy nights, networking dinners, and meetings. Find an organization that speaks to you, and you won’t regret being part of something bigger, meeting new people, and having some fun along the way. You can rely on the Metropolitan Airport News online calendar to see what’s happening at the local airports.
I hope your summer is going great and you’ve been able to enjoy some time off with friends and family. Before you know it, it will be pumpkin spice latte season, so hold onto those beach days for as long as possible.
