Norwegian launched its first nonstop transatlantic flight from Stewart International Airport to Edinburgh Airport in Scotland. This is the first of five routes that will operate from the airport. The airline’s other routes to Ireland, Northern Ireland and Norway will launch in July. Stewart International Airport will also be the home of Norwegian’s newest crew base – its third in the United States. Governor Chris Christie and Port Authority officials broke ground this morning on the overhaul of Newark Liberty International Airport’s 44-year-old Terminal A to provide travelers with a 21st-century facility, creating jobs and boosting the regional economy. Today’s event highlighted the commencement of work to build three roadway bridges designed to reduce congestion and help connect the central terminal area roadway network to the new terminal. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Emirates is showcasing an environmentally friendly aircraft cleaning technique that has enabled the airline to save millions of litres of water every year. Emirates uses the ‘aircraft drywash’ technique to clean its aircraft. Today, Compassion-First Pet Hospitals announced the opening of AirHeart Pet Hospital, the first-ever full-service airport veterinary hospital, at JFK. AirHeart Pet Hospital is located at 78 Old Rockaway Boulevard in Jamaica, New York, and lives inside The ARK, the world’s first privately owned, 24-hour animal terminal and airport quarantine center at JFK. Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has successfully transported some of the world’s best show jumping horses across three continents in the space of a month. The horses were transported from Liege in Belgium to compete in the first three legs of the Longines Global Champions Tour in Mexico City, Miami and Shanghai in April 2017. The air cargo carrier operated a total of 10 dedicated freighter flights each carrying 25 horse stalls to transport the equine champions and their grooms. JetBlue recently announced it will collaborate with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and SITA to test a new paperless and deviceless self-boarding process as part of ongoing trials to implement a biometric exit process in the future. JetBlue will be the first airline to integrate with CBP to use biometrics and facial recognition technology to verify customers at the gate during boarding.
