Airbus has revealed MAVERIC (Model Aircraft for Validation and Experimentation of Robust Innovative Controls) its “blended wing body” scale model technological demonstrator. At 2 metres long and 3.2 metres wide, with a surface area of about 2.25m², MAVERIC features a disruptive aircraft design, that has the potential to reduce fuel consumption by up to 20% compared to current single-aisle aircraft. The “blended wing body” configuration also opens up new possibilities for propulsion systems type and integration, as well as a versatile cabin for a totally new on-board passenger experience. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reached agreement on key terms with Delta Air Lines and JFK International Air Terminal, the operator of Terminal 4, to dramatically expand Terminal 4 and consolidate Delta operations there, a key step in the transformation of John F. United Airlines today announced a new hourly shuttle service between Washington’s Reagan National Airport and New York/Newark Liberty International Airport. United will operate the world’s only two-cabin 50-seat regional aircraft – the Bombardier CRJ-550 on most flights. The CRJ-550 is designed for business and leisure travelers who want true-first-class seating, Wi-Fi, more leg room and enough space for every customer to bring a roller bag on board. United Airlines today further expanded its innovative Aviate pilot program by signing a purchase agreement to become the only major U.S. carrier to own a flight training academy. The United Aviate Academy will give the airline more visibility and direction over the recruitment, development and training of future pilots, enabling United to increase the percentage of women and minorities who become pilots. United expects approximately 300 students to graduate from the United Aviate Academy in its first full year of operation. The Port Authority released its 2019 passenger and cargo volume data across its facilities which established new records at the airports, seaport, PATH system, Goethals Bridge and Staten Island Bridges. JetBlue Airways announced multiple schedule and route changes for the new year as well as several new routes. The airline will introduce non-stop daily service from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Guatemala City’s La Aurora International Airport on June 1st. Guatemala will be the 25th city served by the carrier. The New York-based airline also announced non-stop seasonal service to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport in Montana from JFK and from Boston Logan International Airport. UPS have announced order of 10,000 purpose-built electric vehicles from UK-based Arrival. The initial 10,000 vehicles will be rolled out in the UK, Europe and North America from 2020 to 2024 worth hundreds of millions of euros each year. UPS have the option to purchase a further order of 10,000 vehicles during this period. UPS venture capital arm also announced an investment in Arrival of an undisclosed amount. LATAM Airlines Group relocated its operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport from Terminal 8 to Terminal 4, where Delta serves over 90 destinations in the United States, Canada and worldwide, starting February 1, 2020. This relocation paves the way for smoother connections in New York between LATAM and Delta flights. From February 1, 2020, LATAM Premium Business and top tier LATAM Pass members (Black Signature, Black and Platinum) will also have lounge access in Terminal 4. Kennedy International Airport announced the appointment of James May as Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective February 1, 2020.
