Port Authority leaders and numerous elected officials celebrated Newark Liberty International Airport’s (EWR) rich 90-year history today by turning their sights to the future, highlighting the development of the airport’s new Terminal One. The new facility will provide a world-class experience for fliers with the replacement of the outdated Terminal A. More than a dozen organizations joined together to announce the launch of A Better Way to LGA, a new coalition in support of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposed AirTrain to LaGuardia Airport (AirTrain LGA). The coalition is comprised of community members, economic development groups, transportation advocates, unionized labor, civic stakeholders, and local business leaders, and is co-chaired by the Queens Chamber of Commerce, the Association for a Better New York, and the New York Building Congress. FlightSafety International’s chairman, president and CEO Bruce Whitman, whose career with the flight training company spanned 57 years, died at the age of 85. During Whitman’s tenure, he made it his mission to reduce aviation accidents by creating programs that train pilots, not only for proficiency but to increase their abilities to handle emergency situations. The company developed full-motion simulators that create a realistic environment for pilots to practice situations that would be impossible to safely simulate in complex airplanes. Vaughn College was commended by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao at the Department of Transportation’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on Wednesday, September 26. A new chief executive has been named at Airbus. The European aircraft maker’s board picked insider Guillaume Faury to replace CEO Tom Enders in April. The 50-year-old Faury currently serves as president of Airbus’ commercial aircraft division. He was CEO of Airbus Helicopters from 2013 until February 2018. Board Chairman Denis Ranque praised Faury’s “global outlook, extensive operational experience, strong personal values and straightforward leadership style” in a statement. Delta’s annual “Breast Cancer One” employee survivor flight took to the skies Monday, kicking off the airline’s month-long campaign to generate awareness and raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This year marked Delta’s 14th annual survivor flight, which carried more than 140 employee breast cancer survivors and nearly 10 customers on board the airline’s iconic pink plane from Atlanta to Boston.
