On April 23, 2018, Falcon Squadron, a JFK Airport based unit of Civil Air Patrol (CAP), hosted an FAA Safety seminar focusing on the topic of “Threat and Error Management.” The event, held in the JFK Airport Port Authority Administration Building (#14), was attended by over 2 dozen local pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today signed legislation to advance the process to build a new AirTrain connection to LaGuardia Airport. The new law will allow multiple potential alignments to be considered during an upcoming environmental review of the proposed AirTrain LGA project, planned between the airport and the Long Island Rail Road Station and the 7 subway train at Mets-Willets Point in Flushing, Queens. The Governor’s action marks another critical step toward making a mass-transit link between Midtown Manhattan and LaGuardia a reality, which will help reduce vehicular congestion and delays for passengers traveling to and from the airport. American Airlines Cargo proudly transported priceless Spanish art from locations around the globe to San Antonio for the city’s tricentennial celebration. The works by El Greco, Velazquez, Goya, Picasso and other masters will be displayed at the San Antonio Museum of Art exhibition, “Spain: 500 Years of Spanish Painting from the Museums of Madrid,” from June 23 to Sept. 16. American Airlines Cargo is an official sponsor of the event. Alaska Air Cargo expands its cargo lift capacity by 40 percent in the continental U.S. by utilizing the 71 Airbus aircraft that became part of the Alaska Airlines fleet as part of its merger with Virgin America. Alaska Air Cargo will utilize the belly space in these aircraft to provide customers with new shipping destinations and increased frequencies throughout the Alaska Airlines system. On June 16th, The ARK at JFK, the world’s largest privately-owned animal reception terminal and quarantine, released its single largest equine shipment of 22 horses from 3-day quarantine. Originating from various regions throughout France (including Bordeaux, Côte d’Azur, and Normandy), all 22 horses arrived early Thursday morning, 6/14 to JFK for the equine quarantine at The ARK. The standardbred racehorses are headed for weekly harness racing events commencing August 5th at Yonkers Raceway. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is preparing for another record-breaking travel season this summer, as 243 million passengers and crew are projected to come through security checkpoints nationwide between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Last summer, TSA screened more than 239 million passengers and crew during the summer travel period, which included four of the top 10 busiest days in the agency’s history. It’s likely that some travel days this year may also break into the top 10 list.
