Delta Air Lines’ board of directors today announced Michael Huerta as its newest member, effective immediately. Mr. Huerta recently completed a five-year term as Administrator of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. As head of the FAA, he was responsible for the safety and efficiency of civil aviation in the U.S. “Michael’s deep aviation and broader transportation industry experience will be a great asset to Delta,” said Frank Blake, Delta’s non-executive Chairman of the Board. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) set another screening record during the 2018 spring travel period, March 15 through April 15, with more than 72 million (72,137,639) passengers and nearly 45 million (44,698,036) checked bags screened nationwide. More than 1,500 high school students visited Lockheed Martin facilities across the globe on April 21 to compete in a Code Quest competition meant to test their computer programming skills and give them a glimpse of how their passion for coding could translate into a career. “Today’s high school students will be among the first humans to set foot on Mars,” said Anne Mullins, Lockheed Martin chief information officer. “From launching spacecraft to put astronauts on other planets, to programming robots to assist in dangerous explorations, coding will play an integral role in exploring the next frontier.” Lockheed Martin developed…
Fraport USA announced its arrival at JetBlue’s home terminal – Terminal 5 (T5) at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). As of April 1, Fraport USA took over the day-to-day management operations of T5’s retail program and is responsible for managing all shopping and dining areas. Vaughn College has announced a new program—the “Vaughn Guarantee.” Designed for incoming fall 2018 students, the Guarantee provides students and their families with a pledge that the investment that they make in higher education has enduring value. The Guarantee is the first of its kind in New York state. A Vaughn College education is designed to prepare students for employment in the in-demand fields of engineering, technology, management, and aviation. JetBlue announced the newest round of grants provided by the JetBlue Foundation, a STEM education-focused entity which furthers the airline’s efforts to place aviation top-of-mind as a career choice for students. This year, the JetBlue Foundation is fueling 12 aviation programs with nearly $250,000 in grants to support their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) based initiatives. An arriving passenger at John F. Kennedy International Airport did not enjoy a ‘Happy Hour’ as U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized her illegal cocktail. On April 8, Ms. Stefisha Miller, a Jamaican citizen, arrived on a flight from Kingston, Jamaica. CBP officers inspected a duty-free box she was carrying that contained two Bailey’s bottles with a plastic bag inside of it. CBP officers escorted Ms. Miller to a private search room where the bottles were examined revealing a bag of white powder that tested positive for cocaine. Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has successfully transported some of the world’s best show jumping horses from Mexico City to Miami for the Longines Global Champions Tour. The air cargo carrier will later be transporting these horses from Miami to Liege and from there to Shanghai back to Liege. Emirates SkyCargo will be operating dedicated freighter flights over the course of the month to transport the equine champions and their grooms.
