ITA Airways has taken delivery of its first A321neo on lease from Air Lease Corporation from Airbus’ Hamburg production facilities. The Port Authority of New York/New Jersey (PANYNJ) has named Rebecca Waterman, C.M. Deputy Aviation Commercial Officer. In this position, Ms. Waterman will assist the Aviation Commercial Management Unit in managing the Port Authority’s airport commercial portfolio. She will collaborate with the management teams at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), John F. After six years of construction, LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York, finalized its new 1.3 million-square-foot Terminal B in 2022 as part of a comprehensive upgrade plan. During the first three quarters of 2023, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) intercepted 5,072 firearms at airport security checkpoints, and at the current rate, the agency will surpass last year’s record 6,542 firearms prevented from getting onboard aircraft. In the third quarter, which ended Sept. 30, Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) stopped 1,820 firearms at checkpoints. The total represents an average 19.8 firearms per day at TSA checkpoints of which more than 94% were loaded. “Passengers may travel with a firearm, but it must be in their checked baggage,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske. “Firearms are only permitted in checked baggage,…
Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a member of SATS Group, will increase cargo capacity at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) by 20% in early 2025 with the opening of a new 346,000 sq.ft. terminal incorporating advanced technology and sustainability solutions. New York JFK is one of WFS’ biggest international cargo stations. WFS already operates eight handling facilities at the airport, serving 38 airline customers. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced an agreement with York College at the City University of New York to provide an aviation-focused weekend and summer education and enrichment program in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for up to 700 students from grades 1 through 12. A watch was assembled for the first time at an altitude of over 30,000 ft, thanks to a unique collaboration between Geneva Tourism and Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). On board the flight that connected Geneva to New York on October 18th, representatives from both entities, along with a master watchmaker from Geneva, worked at a specially arranged workstation in the business class to assemble a watch during the journey between the two cities.
