After the last Pan Am airplane landed on December 4, 1991, the employee community never lost their love for the revered institution that was Pan American World Airways. In 1992, a group of volunteers led by Ed Trippe, the son of Pan Am’s President and CEO Juan Trippe, founded the Pan Am Historical Foundation. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced the completion of the new Atrium Business & Conference Center at LaGuardia Airport. The center will open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 19, and will include conference rooms, business center services, and several new lounges. Another Lufthansa Cargo Boeing 777F equipped with AeroSHARK technology entered service. This is the fourth freighter to be equipped by Lufthansa Technik with the technology since February this year. AeroSHARK is a functional surface film that imitates the microscopic structure of shark skin. It reduces the aerodynamic drag on the fuselage and engine nacelles of the Boeing 777F, resulting in significant fuel and emissions savings. Etihad Cargo, the cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways, has appointed Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a member of the SATS Group, as the carrier’s US cargo handling partner to enhance its capabilities in the region. Etihad Cargo has expanded its network with WFS to incorporate all the carrier’s stations in the US. United announced the launch of the United Military Pilot Program, an industry-leading program giving full-time, active-duty U.S. military pilots access to conditional job offers as a First Officer with the airline. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced the start of operations at a new construction support facility at John F. Kennedy International Airport that will eliminate more than 300,000 truck trips across local streets by shifting to the use of barges to move material to and from the historic $19 billion airport redevelopment.
