On December 1, 2025, state senator John Liu was presented with a plaque recognizing him as “Check Pilot of the Year” of the New York Wing of Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. The presentation was made at a meeting of Falcon Squadron, the CAP unit based at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
