The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint at Westchester County Airport (HPN) is now using new technology that confirms the validity of a traveler’s identification (ID) and confirms their flight information in near real time. “The new credential authentication technology at the Westchester County Airport checkpoint improves upon TSA’s detection capabilities for identifying fake IDs such as driver’s licenses and passports at checkpoints and improves upon our security efficiency by automatically verifying passenger identification,” said Robert Duffy, TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airport. “The system also has the capability of confirming the passenger’s flight status in near real time.” Passengers…
One of Germany’s premier flying taxi startups just gained a foothold in the US. Lilium, the five-year-old venture-backed startup from Munich, announced that it will build a 56,000-square-foot transportation hub for its aerial taxi service in Orlando, Florida. The company aims to have passengers taking regional trips in its electric five-seater aircraft starting in 2025, Andrew J. Hawkins reports for The Verge. Fears of an impending truck-apocalypse are picking up speed in Red Hook, as Amazon plans yet another “last-mile” distribution center in the waterfront neighborhood. The online shopping giant has inked a lease for 311,796 square feet at 280 Richards St., a property owned by Thor Equities marketed as Red Hoek Point, and expects to occupy the space next year, according to Real Estate Digest Commercial Observer. JetBlue Airways said it would celebrate World Kindness Day by donating three million TrueBlue frequent-flyer program points to a variety of charities. World Kindness Day has been observed annually across the globe on November 13 since 1989. Its objective is to recognize and encourage acts of kindness. The list of charities to which JetBlue will donate includes Autism Speaks, Make-A-Wish, Together We Rise, and World Central Kitchen, among others, and the airline is also encouraging its passengers to make similar donations as well. JetBlue Airways has joined Southwest Airlines in adding Telluride in Colorado to its route map this winter as US carriers continue to seek out new seasonal leisure routes. The New York-based airline plans to serve Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) from three of its focus cities beginning Dec. 19. MTJ is about 90 mins. north of Telluride, a popular ski destination. LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) announced today that a state-of-the-art water feature is now operational in the brand new Arrivals and Departures Hall at LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B. LGP is the private entity managing and redeveloping the new terminal. The Arrivals and Departures Hall opened earlier this year, marking yet another milestone in the overall redevelopment project. The water feature, which is the centerpiece of Level 4 of the Hall, is a system that was developed by French company Aquatique Show. Travelers at New York-area airports who refuse to don a mask will be subject to a $50 fine, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced. The list of airports includes John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia, and Newark Liberty International. Travelers without masks on the airports’ AirTrains as well as on NJ Path commuter trains will also be subject to fines if not wearing face masks. Textron Aviation was awarded a contract for two additional Beechcraft King Air 350-CPR turboprop aircraft for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO). After mission modifications by Sierra Nevada Corporation, these two Multi-role Enforcement Aircraft (MEA) aircraft will join a fleet of 23 other King Air 350 aircraft used to safeguard the United States homeland as part of the coordinated application of CBP’s aviation and maritime law enforcement resources.
