On the weekend of December 13th, Alaska Airlines ran its’ annual Fantasy Flight arrived at the “North Pole” to bring smiles and holiday cheer to 65 children, many of whom live in shelters or transitional housing. For most of the kids, it was their first time on an airplane. Flight 1225 (as in “Dec. 25”), not only departed Spokane, Washington for Santa’s hometown at 4:45 p.m. this Saturday, but we also threw an elaborately decorated party – a true winter wonderland. Delta’s work to create a sustainable future continues with a long-term offtake agreement under which Delta will purchase 10 million gallons per year of advanced renewable biofuels from Gevo. Sustainable aviation fuels provide significant environmental benefits because the lifecycle carbon footprint can be up to 75 percent less than conventional jet fuel. Delta’s agreement with Gevo complements the airline’s recent $2 million investment in Northwest Advanced Bio-fuels, LLC for the feasibility study of a facility to produce sustainable aviation fuel and other biofuel products in Washington State. Metropolitan Airport News has raised $6,300 for the Aviation High School Annex 5th Year Program through our annual December Charitable Giving Campaign. Since 2017 we have donated more than $37,000 to local aviation-based charities. The Charitable Giving Campaign donates $100 per paid advertisement to the benefactor. This year we are happy to announce that Perfect Dental Care is our Gold Sponsor and has matched our donation to the Aviation High School 5th Year program. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has awarded Fraport USA a five-year contract to manage the retail concessions space of Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Fraport USA will provide retail management services (including food court and common areas) and manage the loading dock/storage facilities at Terminal B. The EWR contract is the third new concessions award within the last three years won by Fraport USA – a leading developer of airport retail concessions programs in North America. The ARK at JFK announces the appointment of Vincent DiCicco, DVM who will be joining the management team as Veterinary and Bio-Security Compliance Officer, effective January 2, 2020. In this role, DiCicco will be responsible for ensuring The ARK’s compliance with best bio-security and animal welfare practices throughout The ARK’s operations, including the ARK Pet Oasis, Equine Export, Equine Import, and Ground Handling. He will be the primary contact with USDA-APHIS/VS on compliance matters related to the Memorandum of Understanding for The ARK’s private equine import quarantine facility, as well as VS’ oversight of the Export Inspection Facility/Barn. The 4th annual Metropolitan Airport News Holiday party was a well attended, highly anticipated event at the Inn at New Hyde Park. It was the kick off to the holiday season for many of the party-goers. As always it was a fun event, with great food and entertainment. Between the magicians, DJ, and the photo-booth, there was something for everyone. A great night was had by all, celebrating the holiday season with colleagues, friends and family.
The annual KAAMCO Cargo holiday party was held on December 6th at the Lawrence Country Club. In addition to being an amazing holiday party packed with friends and colleagues from the JFK cargo industry, the night celebrated Joe Morra from Royal Waste Services. Joe Morra was recognized for not only his professionalism and amazing service at the airports, but also for his friendship to all and his commitment to giving back to the community. In the airline’s centenary year and on the anniversary of Concorde’s final flight, British Airways is proud to announce a partnership with Aston Martin, with a limited-edition sports car that honors the supersonic aircraft. The luxury British car manufacturer has created the DBS Superleggera Concorde Edition. Launching in October 2020 each vehicle will feature titanium from compressor blades that were used across British Airways’ supersonic fleet.
