The PANYNJ honors Women Entrepreneurs every year in some meaningful way. This year for Women’s History Month in March the program was to feature an installation at the beautiful and historic LaGuardia Marine Terminal.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift in priorities to keep the travelling public and airport employees safe, they decided to eliminate the physical installation, however they shared with
Metropolitan Airport News the content that would have been up for all to enjoy. The women selected to be featured are from Queens and deeply involved in the community as well as their businesses. Katie Bliss, Publisher of Metropolitan Airport News and Owner of Aqueous Solutions as well as President of the JFK Airport Rotary Club, Board of Directors of the JFK Chamber of Commerce and member of the LGA Kiwanis Club. Susan Blumenfeld, Interior Designer and owner of Susan Blumenfeld Designs. Susan’s organization is responsible for amazing projects throughout Queens such as the Bulova Corporate Center in East Elmhurst. Veta Brome, Owner of Veta Brome Real Estate. Veta is very engaged in the community, especially the LGA Kiwanis Club as a past president. Veta is an active member of several local chambers of commerce and a supporter of Elmcor and other local civic associations. Deidre Marion-Brown, Beautician at Marion’s salon in East Elmhurst. Marion’s has been in business serving the community for over 50 years. Deidre took the business over from her parents and it has been thriving with a staff of 7. Toyna Brown, Restauranteur and co-owner of Café Grill in East Elmhurst. From East Elmhurst, Tonya is also a Program Director for two facilities supporting emotionally disturbed adolescents. Denice Alicia Coles, CEO A Child’s Place, East Elmhurst. Denice works with the community empowering the children, especially girls, to use their voice to change the world. Dena Spurling, Choreographer and NYC Environmental Police Officer. In addition to her full-time job ensuring compliance throughout the city, Dena opened Dena’s School of the Arts in 1992 to help keep kids engaged in the dance and the arts in her community of Jackson Heights. Sister Tesa Fitzgerald, Founding Director Hour Children Inc. Long Island City. Hour Children Inc is a unique organization that provides services to children and mothers during and after incarceration. Hour Children strives to end the intergenerational incarceration through community support. Caty Gonzalez, President SD Printing and Design of Corona. Through her entrepreneurial spirit, Caty has worked to provide best in class services to her clients and has been recognized by Queens Chamber of Commerce and former NYC Council Member Julissa Ferreras. Shanel Harris, Stylist and owner of Jakari J Salon on 84th and Astoria Blvd in East Elmhurst. Shanel employs 10 local community members in the salon. She is known for her support of the community during tough times such as government shut downs. Anna Krill, Founder of SHAREing and CAREing, a Queens based foundation serving people with cancer that are under insured, uninsured and linguistically isolated. Ms. Krill is a member of the AstoriaLong Island City Kiwanis Club. Ning Lu, Architect at Lu Ning Architecture in Flushing. Ning is a local architect contributing to millions of square feet of the New York Area. She is also an adjunct professor at Baruch College of Real Estate Institute. MS. Lu is a member of many local associations related to business and real estate in the Queens community. Ladisla Perez, Baker and owner of Mio Bakery in Corona. In addition to serving her community with beautiful cakes, she is a volunteer at St. Judges Hospital and at Uni Vision Radio Con. Linda Pham, Owner of DJ Nail Salon in Corona. Victoria Schneps-Yunis, Founder Schneps Media. Schneps Media specializes in community newspapers throughout New York. Ms. Schneps founded Life WORC’s, an organization servicing individuals with developmental disabilities and autism.
