Qatar Airways and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer Gevo, Inc. have signed an offtake agreement, where the airline will purchase 25 million US gallons of neat SAF over the course of five years, with deliveries expected to commence in 2028 at various airports in California. Qatar Airways will be uplifting 5 million US gallons of neat SAF every year and will blend it with its existing supply of conventional jet fuel. IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG) has announced that it is trialing new film to be used for wrapping transported goods as part of its sustainability strategy. IAG Cargo is working with the disposal company and film manufacturer Verpa Folie, who has developed this innovative solution of reduced-thickness polyethylene films with US-based BioNatur Plastics. With this new sustainable material that is 15 micron thickness, 100% recyclable, and biodegradable by landfill, IAG Cargo will save up to 15 tonnes of virgin polyethylene a year. Hawaiian Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, Inc., today announced an agreement with Amazon.com, Inc. and its subsidiaries to operate and maintain an initial fleet of 10 Airbus A330-300 freighters starting in the fall of 2023. Hawaiian will maintain and fly Amazon’s A330s under Hawaiian’s FAA air carrier certificate to move cargo between airports near the online retailer’s operations facilities. Amazon Air has signed a firm agreement to lease ten A330-300P2F freighters from Altavair, taking advantage of the A330’s capacity and economics to help fulfill its one-day delivery promise to Amazon Prime customers. The aircraft will be operated for Amazon by Hawaiian Airlines, which has had A330s as a key element of its fleet since 2010.
