On World Sight Day, eye care nonprofit Orbis International is pleased to announce the inclusion of artifacts from the second-generation Orbis Flying Eye Hospital DC-10 aircraft in a new permanent exhibition opening on Friday, October 14, 2022, at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. An example of humanitarian flight that combines innovations in medicine and aviation, Orbis will be featured in the new “Thomas W. Haas We All Fly” exhibition, which celebrates the breadth and depth of general aviation and its deep impact on society. SWISS became the first airline in the world to deploy the innovative AeroSHARK technology on its passenger services. The transparent AeroSHARK film, which has been applied to its aircraft’s fuselage and engine nacelles, replicates the hydrodynamic skin of a shark to reduce aerodynamic drag and, as a result, lower both inflight fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. JetBlue announced the appointment of Jeffrey Winter as the airline’s new vice president of flight operations. Winter, who has been with JetBlue since 2015, will be responsible for the award-winning airline’s flight operations, flight standards, and leadership of its growing base of nearly 4,700 professional pilots. He will report to Warren Christie, JetBlue’s head of safety, security, fleet operations, airports, and JetBlue University. During his tenure with JetBlue, Winter has held various flight operations, training, and project management roles. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Chairman & CEO of Korean Air Walter Cho, and Chairman & CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) James Kim, announced the signing of an agreement to bring new initiatives and investments to New York City. Boeing and Cargolux have finalized an order of 10 777-8 Freighters with options for six additional airplanes, with a signing ceremony today at Cargolux’s headquarters in Luxembourg. The selection of Boeing’s newest freighter was previously announced at this year’s Farnborough International Airshow as Cargolux’s preferred choice as the replacement for its 747-400 Freighter fleet. Frontier Airlines officially unveiled its first ultra-fuel-efficient Airbus A321neo aircraft at an event at Tampa International Airport (TPA). The 240-seat A321neo, powered by Pratt & Whitney’s groundbreaking GTF engines, will be the most fuel-efficient commercial aircraft among any U.S. airline. Frontier’s A321neo’s will generate significantly lower carbon emissions and engine noise, furthering the efforts of America’s Greenest Airline to reduce its environmental footprint.
