MNG Airlines, which holds a significant share of the air cargo sector in Turkey, accelerated its fleet modernization efforts last year. They invested in acquiring and converting two A330-300 aircraft in order to increase loading capacity and reduce the company’s carbon footprint. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposed the largest-ever fines ever against two passengers for alleged unruly behavior. The fines of $81,950 and $77,272, respectively, are part of the approximately $2 million the agency has proposed since Jan. 1, 2022. “If you are on an airplane, don’t be a jerk and don’t endanger the flight crews and fellow passengers. El Al Israel Airlines has appointed Dina Ben Tal Ganancia, its present vice president for commercial and industry affairs, as chief executive officer. Ben Tal Ganancia will succeed Avigal Soreq, who was appointed CEO of Israel’s flag carrier in late 2020 and who said he would step down last month to become CEO of energy company Delek US Holdings. JetBlue confirmed it has submitted a proposal to the Board of Directors of Spirit to acquire Spirit for $33 per share in cash, implying a fully diluted equity value of $3.6 billion and providing full and certain value to Spirit shareholders. The proposal represents a premium of 52% to Spirit’s undisturbed share price on February 4, 2022, and a premium of 50% to Spirit’s closing share price on April 4, 2022. Gaussin and Qatar Airways Cargo announced the successful testing and commissioning of the AMDT FULL ELEC automotive multi-directional transporter for air cargo pallets, with production underway for delivery in Q2 2022. This multi-directional transporter for airport cargo operations has been developed by Gaussin in close collaboration with Qatar Aviation Services Cargo (the cargo ground handling subsidiary of Qatar Airways Group). U.S. Customs and Border Protection employees at John F. Kennedy International Airport said goodbye to CBP Agriculture K-9 Bobo, an eight-year-old black Labrador, who spent five years with CBP at JFK. “We grew accustomed to watching Bobo enthusiastically protect the nation against prohibited animal and plant products,” said Frank Russo, Director, Field Operations New York. “We are going to miss seeing him in action.” Bobo began his service in 2017 when he was donated by Putnam County Animal Control Center in Georgia. Airport hospitality group OTG and UNICEF USA (United Nations Children’s Fund) today announced an initiative to allow travelers to donate to Ukraine relief directly from the airport iPads as well as OTG’s mobile ordering technology. OTG will match up to $100,000 in donations that are made from its airport technology. OTG manages hundreds of dining and retail locations in airports across the country including Newark, LaGuardia, JFK, Philadelphia, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. At the March 2022 Board of Commissioners meeting, Sherien Khella was elected as Treasurer, following the retirement of Cheryl Yetka. In her new capacity as Treasurer, Sherien will oversee the Agency’s essential financial functions, including cash and liquidity management, insurance risk management, investment management, and debt management.
