The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has appointed Flexport’s air freight director, Neel Shah, to its board of directors. Mr. Shah brings nearly two decades of experience to a board he previously served on between 2011 and 2012. Over the past two years, as global head of air freight at Flexport, he has been responsible for growing the U.S. forwarder’s air cargo activities. Sikorsky’s subsidiary Associated Aircraft Group (AAG) and Fly Blade, Inc (“BLADE”), a digitally-powered aviation company, announced an agreement today to provide a new on-demand urban mobility option in the New York City metro area. AAG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company. Through the agreement, AAG will provide and operate a dedicated S-76C+ helicopter for BLADE, to be flown and maintained by Sikorsky pilots and maintenance technicians. Ahead of the highly-anticipated release of Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel on March 8, International Women’s Day, Alaska Airlines unveiled a special-edition plane today, featuring Marvel Studios’ first female Super Hero lead. Transportation Security Administration officers stopped 20 guns in the New York City region’s airports in 2018, the vast majority of which were detected at Newark Liberty International Airport, which recorded 14 gun catches. Overall it marked a slight increase from the 19 caught in 2017 and mirrored the national trend of an uptick in the number of firearms travelers have been bringing to airports during the course of the past several years. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it has allocated $2 million to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to replace up to 80 model year 2006 and older short-haul trucks that service Port Authority facilities with cleaner, newer model year trucks by offering truckers up to 50 percent of the cost to scrap and replace each vehicle up to $25,000. “The Truck Replacement program is another example of how we are successfully partnering with the private sector by helping support businesses even as we clean up the environment,” said EPA Regional Administrator Pete Lopez. “Pollution…
American Airlines, British Airways, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) announced future plans to co-locate their operations in New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Terminal 8. Moving under the same roof will allow American and British Airways to offer enhanced service between New York and London, further strengthening the airlines’ Atlantic Joint Business partnership. John Pearson has officially taken over as the new chief executive of DHL Express to replace Ken Allen. Pearson takes over the role from Allen, who is heading over to the parcel giant’s new e-commerce division.
