The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport and EVA Air have announced a partnership for the premium airline to operate out of the world-class terminal. The New Terminal One is currently under construction, with its first gates scheduled to open in 2026, in partnership with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey as part of the agency’s $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport. United announced it is expanding its leading global route network, adding new non-stop flights between New York/Newark-Marrakesh, Morocco; Tokyo/Narita-Cebu, Philippines and Houston-Medellin, Colombia. United will also increase flying to popular destinations across the globe including Hong Kong; Seoul, South Korea and Porto, Portugal. After the airfreight market recorded high freight rates from 2020 until 2022 due to low capacities as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, these normalized last year as expected. Lufthansa Cargo was able to achieve significantly higher average yields than before the start of the coronavirus pandemic despite increased capacities in the market. Lufthansa Cargo generated an adjusted EBIT of 219 million euros (previous year: 1.6 billion euros). Climeworks has developed an innovative technology to remove carbon dioxide from the air. With effect from May 1, 2024, the presently three-member top management body will be expanded with the addition of a Chief Operating Officer. The enlargement is intended to give greater weight to the company’s core activity. Oliver Buchhofer, who is presently Head of Operations, has been appointed to the new COO position. Today, JetBlue announced that it has reached an agreement with Spirit Airlines to terminate their July 2022 merger agreement. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg today announced a new proposed rule from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) that would ensure airline passengers who use wheelchairs can travel safely and with dignity. The proposed rule would require that airlines meet rigorous standards for accommodating passengers with disabilities safely and with dignity. The proposal will set new standards for prompt, safe, and dignified assistance, mandate enhanced training for airline employees and contractors who physically assist passengers with disabilities and handle passengers’ wheelchairs and specify actions that airlines must take to protect passengers when a wheelchair is damaged during transport. New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced Equinor’s Empire Wind 1 project one of the conditional winners in its fourth offshore wind solicitation round. The award is an important milestone for the advancement of the project, which can deliver 810 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy to New York. An already highly mature offshore wind project, Empire Wind 1 targets to deliver first power to New York in 2026.
