American Airlines Group Inc. announced that Derek Kerr, American’s Vice Chair, President of American Eagle and Strategic Advisor, will retire from the airline Sept. 30. Kerr stepped down as CFO at the end of 2022 after 20 years in the role as part of a long-planned succession process. Devon May was named Kerr’s successor as CFO and assumed the role Jan. 1. JFK Airport Rotary Club held its annual Run the Runway 5K on April 30, 2023. General Needs, LTD., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that helps veterans, is the beneficiary of this year’s 5k. General Needs helps thousands of homeless veterans and their families in and around Long Island, providing essential items such as socks, underwear, and t-shirts; they focus on providing the basic necessities that are missing in the everyday lives of our homeless veterans. Atlas Air Worldwide announced that Michael T. Steen, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Atlas, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company, in line with the Company’s long-term succession plan, effective June 15, 2023. Atlas Air, Inc. announced that Vaughn College has joined its University Pipeline Program for high-demand roles within Atlas Air. The 2023 Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC) is in the books. More than 80 teams from around the world competed in 26 events in the two-day competition. American Airlines sponsored six teams of aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs) from across the system and student teams from Aviation Institute of Maintenance — Chicago, George T. Baker Aviation Technical College in Miami and Tulsa Tech in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Three of American’s teams and all three American-sponsored student teams took home top spots in a number of events.
Delta Air Lines’ board of directors announced Vasant Prabhu as its newest member. Prabhu is the Vice Chair, Chief Financial Officer of Visa Inc. He has been Chief Financial Officer since 2015 and was elected Vice Chair in 2019. LATAM Cargo was recognized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as the winner of the Air Cargo Innovation Award in the corporate category for its plastic reduction projects in its cargo operations in Chile and Brazil. These initiatives were designed by the subsidiary’s employees and are part of the commitment to become a zero-waste-to-landfill group by 2027.
