Joining Special Honoree Lester Kappel for the ribbon-cutting ceremony are Pan Am Museum Foundation board members’ Kelly Cusack and Linda Freire. They are assisted by Jerry Poller whose father Dave Poller was a flight engineer on the B314 and Metropolitan Airport News’ very own Ed Garcia whose father, also named Edward Garcia, was a Pan Am Purser on the B314. Ed Garcia’s father was also a crew member of the historic first Air Force One flight that transported Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the Casablanca Conference in Africa.
JetBlue released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the development of a terminal at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK). American Airlines team member Azriel “Al” Blackman, an Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Crew Chief based at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), celebrated 75 years of service with the airline today. At WAI’s 29th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference, 103 individual scholarships equaling $569,965 will be awarded. As is the tradition, these scholarships are available for both flight training and scholastic funding with specific scholarships earmarked for nearly every aspect of the aviation and aerospace community. The scholarships will be awarded during WAI’s conference, held next year in Reno, Nevada, from March 22-24, 2018. When United Airlines’ Terminal C at Newark Liberty completes its $120 million re-imagining, 55 new restaurants and food markets will have opened their doors to serve more than 350,000 customers who travel through the terminal each week. It takes a small city to create these culinary experiences daily, and that city now includes Mélange Bakery Cafe, a 24-hour production bakery inside the airport, providing the freshest baked goods to travelers terminal-wide. Southwest Airlines Co. and Discovery Channel are teaming up once again to bring television’s most anticipated summer event, Shark Week, to new heights. Today, Southwest revealed a Shark Week- themed 737-700 aircraft with an all new, larger-than-life underwater scene depicting five shark species along the fuselage. The American Airlines Education Foundation yesterday awarded $801,000 in scholarships to 300 children of employees, an increase of 5 percent compared to 2016. Each recipient will receive a $2,500 scholarship and 51 first generation college students will each receive an additional one-time award of $1,000.
