Aviation Partners, Inc. (API) and Aviation Partners Boeing (APB) announced today that its unique Blended Winglet and Split Scimitar Winglet technologies have now saved the world’s commercial and business jet operators an estimated 7 billion gallons of jet fuel, resulting in a corresponding global reduction of 74 million tons of CO2 emissions. These winglets reduce the drag caused by wingtip vortices, the twin tornados formed by the difference between the pressure on the upper surface of an airplane’s wing and that on the…

Despite profit projections of $35.6 billion in 2016, airlines must shift focus to the revenue and profit potential emerging from mobile commerce, according to the latest monthly industry brief from CellPoint Mobile, “Mobile Commerce and Payment Innovation Across the Airline Sector.” Airlines that embrace mobile commerce strategies and payment solutions benefit by establishing permanent, internal links to currently untapped direct-channel and ancillary sales, according to the brief, and they create a company-wide mentality that aligns more closely with their passengers’ mobile-centric behaviors. The revenue potential is vast, with eMarketer predicting global digital travel outlays of $817 billion by 2020. According…

Flight diversions due to inflight medical emergencies make up a tiny portion of the millions of flights operated annually, but it is costly for airlines. With more people traveling by air, the actual number of inflight medical events has been gradually increasing over the years. Emirates, the largest airline by international traffic, operates over 3,500 departures a week, or more than 194,000 flights in 2016. In those 12 months, the airline handled more than 60 flight diversions due to medical emergencies. A single flight diversion can cost Emirates anything from US$50,000 to over US$600,000, depending on the nature of the…

Items left at TSA checkpoints are collected and stored for 30 days in hopes that the owners will contact TSA’s Lost and Found Office to claim their lost items. Unfortunately, much of what is lost…
