U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the appointment of Elva Muñeton as Acting Port Director of John F. Kennedy International Airport. Ms. Muñeton is the Assistant Director of Trade for the Los Angeles Field Office. During her long CBP career, she has successfully managed many diverse components and has overseen several nationwide programs. Her reassignment will be effective on March 13, 2023. Current Port Director Salvatore Ingrassia will temporarily be taking over as Acting Director of the Miami Field Office.
In the financial year 2022, Lufthansa Cargo once again exceeded its result from the previous year. Revenue rose by 22 percent to 4.6 billion euros (previous year: 3.8 billion euros), while adjusted EBIT amounted to 1.6 billion euros (previous year: 1.5 billion euros). Overall, sales of 7.2 billion freight ton kilometers were similar compared to the previous year (7.2 billion). Universal Hydrogen Co. recently flew a 40-passenger regional airliner using hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. The airplane, nicknamed Lightning McClean, took off from Grant County International Airport (KMWH) and flew for 15 minutes, reaching an altitude of 3,500 MSL. The flight, conducted under an FAA Special Airworthiness Certificate, was the first in a two-year flight test campaign expected to culminate in 2025 with entry into passenger service of ATR 72 regional aircraft converted to run on hydrogen. Lufthansa Group has signed an agreement with Airbus to expand its fleet by 10 Airbus A350-1000s and 5 Airbus A350-900s. With this firm order for the latest generation widebody aircraft, the airline will continue its decarbonization trajectory. Compared to the previous generation of aircraft, the A350 consumes significantly less fuel, with a corresponding reduction in emissions. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Ohmio, a leading New Zealand-based autonomous mobility company, announced that in June, John F. Kennedy International Airport will host the country’s first three-vehicle platooning demonstration at a U.S. airport. The agency also hosted a demonstration of two eight-passenger electric autonomous shuttles in a platoon at the airport in October 2022 to simulate how such technology could serve passengers in the future. Anderson will oversee JetBlue’s information security program to ensure the company’s data, systems, and other digital assets remain protected.
