Long Island MacArthur Airport officially dedicated its $8.4 million, 12,000 SF Ground Transportation Center (GTC) following the completion of a Terminal Walkway, the final component of the project. Additionally, the airport announced $26 million in improvements to the Main Terminal Building and Mechanical Engineering and Plumbing (MEP) upgrades. While separate grants fund this construction work, the projects will take place simultaneously for efficiency and to keep operations running smoothly for customers. Governor Kathy Hochul and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today celebrated a key milestone in the Port Authority’s transformation of John F. Kennedy International Airport with the groundbreaking for the $4.2 billion project to develop a new Terminal 6. The 1.2 million square foot, state-of-the-art new terminal on the airport’s north side will feature ten new gates — including nine wide-body gates — and will create 4,000 jobs, including 1,800 jobs in construction. American Airlines Group Inc. announced that Greg Smith had been named independent chairman of the company’s board of directors, effective April 30, 2023. Smith, 56, will succeed Doug Parker, who will retire from the board at that time. FedEx Corp. continues to support those affected by the catastrophic earthquakes that have devastated Southern Turkey and Northern Syria, committing more than $1,000,000 (USD) worth of in-kind shipping so far. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at Sacramento International Airport (SMF) detected 50 firearms in travelers’ carry-on luggage in 2022. Every one of these firearms was discovered during the routine X-ray screening of carry-on property. Nationwide last year, TSA officers found 6,542 firearms at 262 different airports. Atlas Air announced an Atlas Air 747-8F departed from Washington Dulles International Airport carrying tons of humanitarian and relief supplies for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
