American Airlines Group Inc. announced that Devon May had been named Chief Financial Officer following a long-planned succession process. May, currently the airline’s senior vice president of Finance and Investor Relations, will assume the CFO role effective Jan. 1, 2023. He will report to American’s CEO Robert Isom. United Airlines announced the largest widebody order by a U.S. carrier in commercial aviation history: 100 Boeing 787 Dreamliners with options to purchase 100 more. This historic purchase is the next chapter in the ambitious United Next plan and will bolster the airline’s leadership role in global travel for years to come. United expects to take delivery of the new widebody planes between 2024 and 2032 and can choose among the 787-8, 9, or 10 models, providing flexibility to support a wide range of routes. Starting in January 2023, Lufthansa Cargo will use new, lighter transport networks to secure cargo pallets. By using a special fiber, the new nets save more than 50 percent in weight compared to conventional nets. This saves weight on every flight and thus significantly reduces CO2 emissions. Lufthansa Cargo is the first airline to use lightweight nets for an entire pallet type. Hertz Global Holdings Inc. announced that veteran marketing and sales executive Wayne Davis will join the company as Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), effective January 3, 2023. The last Boeing 747 left the company’s widebody factory in advance of its delivery to Atlas Air in early 2023. “For more than half a century, tens of thousands of dedicated Boeing employees have designed and built this magnificent airplane that has truly changed the world. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the REAL ID enforcement date by 24 months, from May 3, 2023, to May 7, 2025, giving travelers additional time to ensure they have driver’s licenses or identification cards that meet the security standards established by the REAL ID Act. As required by the law, following the enforcement deadline, federal agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), will be prohibited from accepting driver’s licenses and identification cards that do not meet these federal standards.
