The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is in the process of installing new acrylic barriers at security checkpoints throughout John F. Kennedy International Airport as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to implement initiatives to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The protective barriers are being installed in areas where TSA officers typically interact with passengers. This includes the travel document checking podium and the divesting area where travelers prepare their carry-on property for X-ray screening. “The installation of these barriers is just one of many initiatives that TSA has put in place with the goal of enforcing social distancing and…
Ribbon cuttings and groundbreakings are becoming routine at Long Island MacArthur Airport. This week, it was a new private aircraft hangar. Recently, it was a new ground transportation center. It’s the little airport with big plans — rebuilding and rebranding. “It’s getting people to wake up and say, wow, it’s easier for me to get in a car and travel east and not have to buck traffic going to LaGuardia or JFK, not stand on long lines,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter in an interview with CBS2’s Carolyn Gusoff. Carpenter says it’s no longer a sleepy regional airport on…
Automated Passport Control (APC) is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that streamlines the entry process for U.S. citizens, U.S. legal permanent residents, Canadian citizens, eligible Visa Waiver Program participants, and specific U.S. visa holder travelers, by providing an automated process through CBP’s Primary Inspection area. Travelers use self-service kiosks to respond to CBP – inspection related questions and submit biographic information. APC is a free service, does not require pre-registration or membership, and maintains the highest levels of protection when it comes to the handling of personal data or information. Travelers using APC experience shorter wait times, less congestion, and faster processing.…
Fraport, the owner and operator of Frankfurt Airport, will be using two additional state-of-the-art refrigerated trailers for the transportation of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products. This will take Fraport’s total fleet for cross-apron transportation up to 20 temperature-controlled transporters. “The two new refrigerated transporters will give us maximum flexibility when it comes to handling temperature-sensitive goods. We have profound expertise in this area, and our customers benefit from this. It means that we can offer ideal infrastructure conditions together with our partners at Air Cargo Community in Frankfurt,” said Siegfried Pasler, Head of Ground Handling Services at Fraport AG. The new dollies…
A Brazilian diplomat had to move from New York City to Sao Paulo last April, but when airlines imposed flight cuts and restrictions as the coronavirus hit, he had to leave a beloved pair of parrots behind. After giving the African grey and Senegal parrots to a friend for temporary care, he called in a pet transportation service. Following months of permits and red tape, the birds finally winged their way home to South America, via Germany – after their happy owner parted with about $10,000 for the airlift. Such is the complicated new world of trying to reunite pets with their relocating owners in…
JFK Terminal One has teamed up with Adams Medical to offer PCR and Antibody testing. The service is located pre-security and is available to both passengers and employees. In most cases, results can be available in under 3-hours, which is reducing the number of denied boardings, rebooking, and missed connections for those airlines requiring negative test results before departure. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please contact Adams Medical at (917) 992-4645 or visit their website.
In March, the CARES Act relieved the airline industry with billions of dollars in federal grants and loans. It also provided temporary support for workers as the demand for travel across the world diminished due to the coronavirus pandemic. And without more funding from the federal government, the industry could suffer. The latest news indicates that while congress is still in a quandary, the President is ready to sign a Stimulus Executive Order, and is also prepared to resume the aviation CARES act the same way. Thousands of industry workers are in a difficult position as American and United airlines say they could be forced to lay off…

Ground operator dnata has augmented its ability to handle pharmaceuticals at Singapore Changi airport with the introduction of airside temperature-controlled cool-dollies. Singapore’s tropical, year-round climate means that sensitive pharmaceuticals and perishables shipments are especially vulnerable to temperature fluctuations. Without stringent temperature controls to maintain product effectiveness and freshness on the tarmac at Changi airport, cargoes – such as global anti-COVID vaccines – will quickly perish. Temperature-sensitive shipments being moved between dnata’s cargo handling facility and the aircraft at the tropical nation will now be moved inside the new ramp transporters, which offer a temperature protection range of between 18°C and +25°C.…
