New credential authentication devices are being installed at various airport checkpoints, enabling passengers to insert their ID directly into a card reader, eliminating the need for a TSA screening officer to touch the ID. Many checkpoints now also feature computed tomography (CT) scanners, allowing TSA officers to manipulate an image on screen to get a better view of a bag’s contents. This technology often enables officers to clear items without having to open a carry-on bag. The new CT scanner further reduces the need for a passenger to remove contents of their bag during the screening process. Beyond TSA’s aggressive technology improvements…
Screening numbers have improved dramatically says the TSA, but we have a long way to go. A patch of blue appeared in the sky on Sunday, October 18th when The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screened more than 1 million passengers , representing the highest number of passengers screened at TSA checkpoints since March 17, 2020. In addition to screening one million passengers in a single day, TSA screened 6.1 million passengers at checkpoints nationwide during the week (Mon., Oct. 12 through Sun., Oct. 18). That weekly volume also represents the highest weekly volume for TSA since the start of the…
United Airlines is moving forward with plans to return to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport next year, with plans to “compete aggressively” on transcontinental routes to the West Coast. The Chicago-based carrier aims to connect JFK to the West Coast — likely its hubs in Los Angeles and San Francisco — as well as to some of its other domestic hubs when flights resume in 2021, United CEO Scott Kirby said during a third quarter earnings call on October 15th. By returning to JFK during the coronavirus pandemic, United stands to join some of its smaller peers like JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and…
While Singapore Airlines is looking to diversify its fleet with the addition of Boeing 737s (800s and MAXs), it is still some way off from adjusting to a prolonged suppressed demand. Singapore Airlines will fly non-stop into JFK, though historically it flew into Newark. While passenger demand is bound to remain suppressed due to travel restrictions, the carrier expects a significant cargo market. On March 25th this year, the world’s longest regular passenger service was suspended indefinitely. However, it would seem that the date for the resumption of Singapore Airlines’ record-holding route has been decided. Beginning November 9th, Singapore Airlines will offer…

“New York is continuing to rebuild and revitalize its infrastructure in the face of a long drought of federal support, and that commitment means moving the state’s airports into the 21st century,” Governor Cuomo said. “This new one-stop facility at Long Island MacArthur Airport will give businesses and visitors to the New York City and Long Island regions an improved and streamlined travel experience.” “Today’s groundbreaking of a new ground transportation facility at MacArthur Airport represents a new gateway to Long Island,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. “Modernizing our regional airports is critical to boosting business and tourism in our unique and diverse New York State regions, and another example of how we’re building back better than ever…
Sourced via Airbus’s Mobile, Alabama plant, the A220-900 will be delivered to JetBlue between the end of 2020 and through 2021. The total number delivered will be 70, and each plane delivered will replace JetBlue’s fleet of E190’s on a one to one basis. The new jet comes complete with a new tail pattern, called “Hops”, crafted by JetBlue’s own designers in homage to the practice in aviation of hopping, where a traveler takes multiple short trips or flights that add up to a “larger journey”. JetBlue described the A220-300’s spacious and comfortable cabin that makes it the perfect fit…
