At the German Design Awards ceremony in Frankfurt on February 3, Lufthansa Cargo and the Frankfurt Institute for Recycling, Ecology & Design (IRED) were named winners in the “Excellent Product Design Lifestyle and Fashion” category for their joint Upcycling Collection. First Freighter to Take Off With CO2-efficient AeroSHARK technology

Lufthansa Cargo’s first AeroSHARK-modified Boeing 777 freighter, registered D-ALFA, took off for the first time at 05:07 (CET) on February 3, 2023. Under flight number LH8410, the B777F started from Frankfurt (FRA) to Bengaluru (BLR), from where it will fly on to Chengdu (CTU). AeroSHARK is a surface film that mimics the microscopic structure of shark skin. Its structure consists of ribs around 50 micrometers in size – so-called riblets. Atlas Air, Inc., a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc., announced it had taken delivery of the final 747 ever to be produced by Boeing. United Airlines, Tallgrass, and Green Plains Inc. announced a joint venture – Blue Blade Energy – to develop and commercialize a novel Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) technology that uses ethanol as its feedstock.
